Transgender Remembrance Day will take place in Harrisburg on November 20th, 5:30 p.m. at the Capital Steps. The purpose of Transgender Remembrance Day is to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia and to bring attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community. It should also inspire us to remember the hardships transgender people can face with access to healthcare.
Transgender people have faced barriers not only from the financial side of their care, in terms of fair and equal access to employment and health insurance, but also in how care teams provide services and address transgender people. Low self esteem and condemnation from society are large risk factors towards drug and alcohol abuse.
Poor employment opportunities also create a disproportionate population that has poor access to adequate health care coverage.
